About the Awards
CECA recognises excellence in the way companies use the corporate website and email communications as an effective channel of communications and service delivery. Public recognition will be given to the winners through Financial Mail and media campaign.

Winners will be entitled to display the award logo on their site. CECA gives you an expert third-party appraisal of your efforts in using and developing an online channel. CECA is an opportunity for entrants to benchmark themselves against their peers. All evaluated entrants will receive a report not available to the public, detailing the findings of the study, their scores and relative positioning.

If the website does not work for the user it simply does not work The Internet has emerged as a powerful tool, interwoven with the fabric of every day business practice. Corporates face many challenges in realising the full potential of this dynamic medium to deliver quality information, communications and services to ever growing numbers of diverse users.

After three years of development Financial Mail is rebranding its Online Communications Index as a fully fledged Award for 2006. The award seeks to recognise and encourage innovation and sound user-centric thinking among those responsible for the development of corporate websites. It will set the benchmarks in corporate practice, uncovering trends, conventions and plain good ideas. Ultimately it seeks to be a resource and reference point for the Internet in Corporate South Africa, increasing awareness of the value of the Internet for corporates, not only for themselves, but also as ambassadors for South Africa in the global business community.

The Award employs a user-centric approach for the evaluation of the online channel. It holds that in the final analysis if the website does not work for the user it simply does not work. It is not strictly a design award, nor does it evaluate the quality of the content provided alone, rather it analyses how these can contribute to the quality of the user's experience.
